Swim with Turtles in San Juan
Where to snorkel with turtles in San Juan, Puerto Rico: Escambrón beach, Playita del Condado and the Condado Lagoon, the tours, prices, ages and getting there.
In San Juan the turtle snorkels start from two places, both a short ride from Old San Juan: Escambrón, a beach park on the Atlantic shore of the San Juan islet, and Playita del Condado with the Condado Lagoon, just east across the bridge. Most take about 90 minutes from the beach, no boat, with the gear included, from $39 in current promotion (usually $58) a person (checked October 2026). None picks you up from your hotel, so you come by taxi or Uber, or drive and pay to park.
The two places on the map

Balneario El Escambrón is the beach park below the old Batería del Escambrón, about 3 km east of Old San Juan. Most of the San Juan turtle snorkels meet in its car park or on its sand: you walk in, swim out over the reef with a guide and look for turtles.
Playita del Condado is the small beach at the mouth of the Condado Lagoon, on the Condado side of the bridge. The lagoon has been a natural reserve since 2013, and the DRNA, Puerto Rico’s natural-resources department, writes that manatees are commonly seen there because the seagrass feeds them, and that the same seagrass makes green turtles more likely in the area. The DRNA also names Playita del Condado as a nesting beach for leatherback and hawksbill turtles.

The snorkels at Condado
- Playita del Condado: San Juan Snorkel LLC's 90-minute snorkel goes out from the beach in water where turtles and manatees come to feed, with a life jacket, lifeguard-trained guides and a free video, from $55 (checked October 2026). You must be able to swim, and the minimum age is 10.

Getting there
None of these snorkels picks you up. Escambrón is about 3 km from Old San Juan and close to the Condado hotels, so a taxi or an Uber is the simple way; if you drive, parking at the beach costs extra, $5 to $10 on the listings (October 2026). Playita del Condado is a walk from the Condado hotels. Arrive early: Sea Adventures of PR starts check-in 30 minutes before the tour.
Good to know
- Prescription glasses do not fit under a snorkel mask; wear contact lenses or go without.
- The videos are free on most of these snorkels. Try Scuba Diving - San Juan does not refund the tour if the camera fails.
- Bring swimwear, a towel and water. A long-sleeved rash guard keeps the sun off your back while you float.
- Turtles are wild. No snorkel can promise one; the guides know where to look and how to watch a turtle without crowding it. The turtle rules explain how close you may go.
- Never snorkeled before? See turtle snorkeling for beginners.
